If there’s one thing all Singaporeans have in common, it’s our love for good food – and maybe an occasional IG pic at an aesthetic cafe. Since Singapore is so small, it’s easy to cafe-hop from one place to another.
This month, you’ll have 13 new spots to add to your cafe and restaurant list – from aesthetic photo-worthy options like Naga House, to fancy ones for a big night out like Restaurant BORN. 1. Naga House – Japanese-style cafe & bar selling trendy apparel

If you’re looking for a chill hangout spot, check out Naga House. It sports a modern laid-back interior and a retail corner selling trendy apparel, a nod to its streetwear roots.
The shop has a Japanese-inspired menu, with sandos like the Flank Steak ($16) and Triple Tamago ($12), as well as Gohan Bowls (Japanese rice bowls) like the House-Fried Chicken with Tamago Kake Gohan ($14).
It also doubles as a bar for late-night hangs, whipping up cocktails like the Pretty Boy Whiskey ($14), and Tequila shots starting from $8.

2. Sushi-Go – New AMK Hub outlet with AI robots

Westies may already be familiar with Sushi-Go, a train-concept sushi restaurant. Now, the chain has opened its 2nd outlet at AMK Hub, featuring a new futuristic concept with AI “Go-Bots” that’ll deliver sushi with heart-eyes, smiles, and other cool emoji expressions.

3. Ground Floor Coffee – Home-based coffee stall in a Pasir Ris HDB

If you’re active on social media, you’ve probably seen videos or articles about Ground Floor Coffee, a unique little coffee shop that operates out of a HDB window.

You read that right – the “walk-through” stall is fully home-based, which explains why it only takes pre-orders and has varying opening hours based on the owner’s personal work schedule. Items you can purchase include Latte ($4), Lavender Latte ($6), and Dark Mocha ($6), as well as freshly baked Cake Gula Hangus ($2.50).

4. Pocha! Korean Street Dining – Pojangmacha-style street food

K-drama fans are probably familiar with the mandatory pojangmacha scene, where the main characters indulge in yummy street food while drinking soju inside orange-coloured tents. Now, you can live out your main character moment in the comfort of air-conditioning at Pocha! Korean Street Dining.
The street food stall sells popular Korean food, from smaller bites like Pork Belly Zig Zag skewers ($5.90) and tteokbokki, AKA Korean simmered rice cakes, ($10.90) to mains like Beef Bulgogi ($12.90).

5. Stack – Reopened after 2 years with sandwiches & waffles

OG fans of Stack will be thrilled to hear that it’s reopened 2 years after closing in October 2020. The aesthetic Muslim-owned cafe is recognisable by the cute cartoon graphics printed on its windows. Inside, you’ll get to enjoy an array of sandos, waffles, soft serves, and coffee.

Specialising in sandwiches, their sandos include a classic egg and pork-free spam combo, aptly named Spam And Egg And Egg ($12), vegan K-Sando ($10) and waffles with soft serve starting at $12. If you’d just like the ice cream, you can get it a la carte for $6, with $1 topping options.
Drinks on the menu include Espresso ($3.50) or Cold Brew Black ($7) for coffee lovers. Otherwise, order up juices like Berry Bliss ($7) or other sweet options like Butterscotch ($7).

6. La Petite Boulangerie – French bakery in a furniture store

There’s always a sort of excitement attached to uncovering a hidden cafe, and La Petite Boulangerie is the newest one on the block. The French pastry shop is nestled inside My Selection, a new furniture store stocking affordable European-style furniture.

You can find rare French treats here. It is notably the first shop in Singapore to offer the Merveilleux ($9), a small meringue cake dessert, in a wide variety of flavours. Other pastries include a bread called Escargot, with local flavours like Coconut Gula Melaka ($5.50).

7. Um Yong Baek – Famous Korean restaurant with Busan delicacies

Those who frequently travel to South Korea may know of Um Yong Baek, a popular restaurant from Busan. It soft-launched in Singapore in May by reservation-only and it was super hard to secure a spot at. Now, it’s been opened to the public for walk-ins, so you can finally get a taste of its famous Busan delicacies.
One of its specialty dishes is dwaeji-gukbap, a.k.a. Busan Pork and Rice Soup ($21). The dish, which first came about during the Korean war when refugees had to maximise their usage of ingredients like pork bones, has become a staple in Busan.
At night, Um Yong Baek also turns into a KBBQ spot, serving meat like Tongmoksal Jumeokgogi ($28), which means pork collar, and Ohgyeopsal ($27), which is pork belly with skin.

8. Restaurant BORN – Fine dining at Jinrikisha Station

Jinrikisha Station along Neil Road was a central depot for rickshaws in the past. The heritage building is now home to a new French-Chinese fine dining spot, Restaurant BORN.
The restaurant is the latest endeavour by Chef Zor Tan, a former executive chef at 2-star Michelin restaurant Sichuan Moon. It’s one that foodies definitely don’t want to miss.

Fitting with its clean, modern interior, Restaurant BORN serves contemporary dishes that’s a mix of French and Chinese cuisine. Currently, they offer a 9-course seasonal menu, with the Chef’s Menu costing $368++, with wine pairing at $198++ and non-alcohol pairing at $138++.

9. Le Petit Chef – Immersive dining experience available till Sep

This dining experience is probably one of the most adorable ones we have right now, and it’s here in Singapore for a short time till 15th September 2022.
Le Petit Chef comes from France, and is a super cool immersive experience where diners get to watch a tiny chef “prepare” their food through a cute animation, before trying the actual dish.
Diners can opt for a 5-course Master Class Menu ($218), premium ingredient Elite Class Menu ($318), and vegetarian Légumier Class Menu ($218). There’s also a Junior Class Menu ($108) curated for kids.

10. Ocean Restaurant – Reopened after 3 months with new menu

Ocean Restaurant, a popular dining spot at Resorts World Sentosa, is famous for being a unique fancy restaurant where patrons essentially experience dining “inside” an aquarium. It’s finally reopening with an upgraded menu after being closed for refurbishment since February.

Its new menu is sustainability-focused, and features responsibly-sourced seafood and home-grown ingredients. The restaurant opens during fixed slots daily, serving a 4-course lunch ($148++) in the day, and a 6-course dinner at night ($248++).

11. Lola’s at Holland Village – 2nd outlet with larger tables for groups

Lola’s is a pretty dessert and breakfast spot at Simon Road that’s steadily gained traction online, and it has officially opened a 2nd outlet at Holland Village. The new branch sports a cosy interior with wooden and brick detailing, plus large seating options ideal for large groups.
Patrons of the Simon Road outlet can continue to enjoy their regular dishes at this outlet, such as the Pulled Pork & Avocado Eggs Benedict ($16), Lola’s Breakfast ($23), and Lola’s Chocolate Cake ($6.50).

12. Well Collective – Pet-friendly cafe in the new Northshore Plaza

Those looking for a new spot to chill with their fur-friends can check out Well Collective, a pet-friendly cafe with a warmly-lit interior. It adopts a Japanese-inspired dining concept, where it’s a deli and brunch spot by day and an Izakaya by night.
It serves an array of dishes, from mains to breakfast foods and bites. For instance, they sell sandwiches like a Japanese Curry Chicken Sando ($19), breakfast platters like a Well Daily Big Breakfast ($25) and mains like Truffle Mushroom Pasta ($21).

13. 1932 Story Cafe – Antique cafe at Bukit Timah Railway Station

The Bukit Timah Railway Station, one of the 2 railway stations we have in Singapore, recently reopened to the public in July after being restored. There, you’ll find the new 1932 Story Cafe, aptly named after the year the station was built. Staying on theme, the cafe’s interior is decked out in antique furniture, and even has a space set aside for a “heritage gallery”.

1. Cafe Hachi – Japanese Parfaits & vegan dishes from Fukuoka

Ask a Japanese person what their favourite dessert is and chances are they’ll say a parfait. No, they don’t mean the layered yoghurt treat you might have in mind – Japanese parfaits come with layers of fresh fruit, fluffy cream, and loads of toppings.

You’ll find just that at Cafe Hachi, along with much more like puddings, ice cream, and vegan options too. The chain comes straight from Fukuoka, and definitely looks like it; the interior resembles an old Japanese tearoom, or kissaten, with rustic wood furnishings and plush seats. Just like with toilets and trains, the Japanese just seem to do it better.

2. Ju Signatures – Cute, handmade dim sum & Cantonese dishes

Ju Signatures is a classic Chinese restaurant with a twist. Here, more than your usual siew mai and har gao, you’ll find some really cute and unique dim sum.

Specialising in Cantonese cuisine, the restaurant is known for their IG-worthy dim sum. Looking at the pictures, you can see why – each fold, crease and dot of colour is done by hand, and the result is some dang cute dim sum. Surprisingly, prices are pretty affordable, with most of their dishes being under $10.

3. Jinhonten – Omakase restaurant with one seating a day
If there’s anything that’ll get Singaporeans excited, it’s exclusivity. It can’t get more exclusive than Jinhonten, which only does 1 lunch and dinner seating a day.

With ingredients air-flown from Japan, their menu features all sorts of seasonal specialties. At $180++ for the 8 course lunch and $450++ for the 10 course dinner, it’s not exactly affordable. But when you consider the fact that dishes are made with ingredients like Iranian caviar and Murasaki uni, the price makes more sense.

4. Pangium – Elegant date spot in Singapore Botanic Gardens

Most of us know Singapore Botanic Gardens as the grounds for our picnics, or for being the place where we do our morning exercise or evening walks. Now, more than just being a place of exercise, there’s a new dining spot. Past all the lush greenery lies Pangium, a restaurant serving heritage cuisine in a villa setting.

If you don’t believe this place exists because you think you’ve covered every blade of grass in the area, know that it’s located within the Gallop Extension of the garden. As they use only the freshest seasonal ingredients, there is no fixed menu. Lunch will cost you $198++, while dinner will set you back $258++, so while it’s not an everyday splurge, it’s perfect for special occasions.

5. Kura – Reopened after 3 months with new cakes

If you’ve been in the Chinatown area recently, you may have chanced upon Kura. If the name rings a bell, that’s because this is the same joint that once operated from Kim Yam Road. After a 3-month long move and renovation, they’ve made their long awaited comeback, and with some new menu items to boot.

Among the familiar favourites are 2 new items: the Mango Basil ($12.80) and the Raspberry Earl Grey ($12) – made with raspberry coulis and earl grey jivara chocolate mousse. In non-baker terms, these cakes are fancy.
If cakes aren’t really your thing, you can even go for the Key Lime Tart ($8.50) – a tangy, refreshing treat that won’t get cloying no matter how many bites you take.

6. Hovoh Cafe – Healthy banh mis & rice bowls near Fort Canning

They say that health is wealth, and there’s no better way to keep healthy than to make sure you’re careful about what you put into your body. Hovoh Cafe makes healthy banh mis and rice bowls, using locally sourced, sustainable ingredients.

Located just a 5-minute walk from Fort Canning MRT station, the cafe is perfect for grabbing a quick, healthy bite after hiking at Fort Canning Park. Other than its signature rice bowls and banh mis, the Parisian-style cafe also sells pasta, burritos and coffee.

7. The Lunar Rabbit Boulangerie – Opened by Le Cordon Bleu chef

If you’ve watched the Netflix show Emily In Paris, you probably remember drooling over the bakery scenes. Chances are, you wished you could go to Paris then, and probably still do now. If that’s not an option, The Lunar Rabbit Boulangerie in Bendemeer is the next best thing.

The cafe is helmed by a pastry chef from Le Cordon Bleu culinary school, so you can be sure that the bakes are going to be good. If not, the fact that it sells out daily should make it a little more convincing. While you’re there, get the Pain au Chocolat ($4.50), the litmus test for any good bakery, and the Trio of C ($6.50), which combines a cookie, cheesecake, and croissant.

8. Lumbré – Spanish farm-to-table dining in CHIJMES

Lumbré in CHIJMES specialises in Spanish farm-to-table fare. The dishes on their land and sea-themed menu are only cooked through 1 of 2 signature means – either an open wood-fire grill or Josper charcoal oven – which imparts a delightful smokiness onto the food.

9. Shake Shake In A Tub – Popular fry chain’s first cafe, in Orchard

You can’t call yourself a true fry lover unless you’ve tried Shake Shake In A Tub. The popular fry chain took Singapore by storm when it first opened 3 years ago, and judging by the snaking queues outside their kiosks to this day, the hype isn’t dying down anytime soon.

While the chain previously only operated to-go kiosks around the island, they’ve since opened their very first cafe – a sit-down branch with plenty of new menu items. Go for the Fries-Go-Round set ($15.80) to sample 5 kinds of fried food at once, or the Say Cheese! Fondue ($21.90), which comes with its own pot of savoury, melty cheese.

10. Caffeine Xpress – Hidden cafe in a magazine store

Even if Holland Village MRT station isn’t a part of your daily commute, you’ve probably walked past Thambi Magazine Store countless times.
The hole in the wall has been an iconic part of Holland Village for years, located just outside the station. Though it used to be a grab-and-go shop, with the opening of Caffeine Xpress, you can now grab a cup of joe to sip while you browse.

In addition to a selection of coffees, teas, and other beverages, the newly-opened cafe also sells cakes and pies, baked in-house. While selections change daily, their Lemon Meringue Pie ($4.50) and Blueberry Cheesecake ($6) are worth a try.

1. Cafe Natsu – Japanese-inspired brunch & bubblies

Awash with pastel shophouses and abstract murals, Joo Chiat is also where cafes are aplenty. Cafe Natsu enters the fray with menu offerings that marry Western mains with Japanese ingredients. Included in their roundup of dishes are ones like Cold Soba Noodle Salad ($22) and Wagyu Burger ($28).
Expect aesthetic dishes that match the vibes of the cafe. Its rounded doorways and minimalist exteriors, is yet another draw for IGers who want a backdrop that looks as good as their chio meal. Cafe Natsu also has bar seats that overlook the street where patrons can pop by after work and sip on bubblies and sake.

2. Missus – Muslim-owned bakery cafe

The Jalan Besar ’hood has its fair share of hipster cafes. Joining its ranks is Missus, a halal cafe that prides itself on its take on a grilled cheese sandwich. Instead of just a slice of cheese melted between white bread, you’ll find modern interpretations of the after-school classic here.
There are only 4 options available on its soft launch menu currently, with more to be added in the future. This includes the Missus Melt ($16.90), a truffle cheese mix, and Slumdog Grillionaire ($19), with masala tomato and tomato tamarind chutney.

Apart from the grilled cheeses, you can’t miss the wafting smell of fresh bakes in the air. That’s because the cafe also has an in-house bakery where customers can pick up buns and tarts after their meal to snack on later or save for brekkie the next day.

3. LUCE by Davide Giacomelli – Authentic Italian fare

Those with a palate for Italian food can head over to LUCE at InterContinental Hotel this June. Despite its locale, patrons shouldn’t feel the need to dress to the nines to enjoy a meal here. LUCE may serve haute cuisine but the resto has a comfy and casual vibe to it.
Swing by during lunch for their 2- and 3-course lunch sets ($34 and $40 respectively). Tipplers can look to the menu for suggestions on drink pairings (from $10/glass) that would go best with their choice of mains. Else, try the Acquerello Lobster ($46), a risotto dish with generous portions of lobster for a taste of Italy without hopping on a flight out.

4. Uncle Fong Hotpot Restaurant – Popular HK hotpot chain

There’s no denying that Singaporeans enjoy gathering around a hotpot and dipping ribbons of pork and beef into flavourful soups. And now there’s Uncle Fong Hotpot from Hong Kong to add to your list of hotpot go-tos.
Like most other hotpot restaurants, they have a 2-way pot for 2 different soups. But the main attraction here is the 9-grid pot for mala. This allows you to cook different types of ingredients based on the heat and time required.

5. Epigram Coffee Bookshop – Book cafe in a museum

11. Forma – Unique handmade pasta

Even before opening its doors, Forma was already booked out for the month of May. Thankfully, bookings for June and July are now open, but you’ll want to make a reservation – stat – before seats are snapped up again.
The draw here at this Italian restaurant is its handmade pasta, which includes shapes like penne and orecchiette. Arrive early enough and you’ll get to watch the chefs in action make the pasta through the clear glass that separates the kitchen from the main seating area.

Travelling to Japan is about to be a dream come true for many of us who’ve been waiting to dig into handmade ramen or see the cherry blossoms in full bloom IRL. For the rest of us who aren’t planning to clear our ALs so soon, make a trip to River Valley instead to check out Shin Yasuke, a new omakase restaurant.
The menu is simple: $180 for 15 types of nigiri sushi selected by the chef and made fresh right in front of you. Seafood choices are seasonal but expect to see crowd favourites like fatty tuna to more exotic selections like firefly squid.

13. Osteria Mozza – Farmhouse vibes & mozzarella bar

Osteria Mozza has been taking time off for the past 4 years, but the Italian restaurant is back at the reopened Hilton Singapore Orchard Hotel. The menu has been kept the same with some updates, so you’ll still find favourites like Burrata with Bacon and Orecchiette with Sausage and Swiss Chard.
But those looking forward to sinking their teeth into their famed pizzas might have to wait a while – these will only be brought back to their lunch menu sometime in the future.
Visually, the Hilton rendition of Osteria Mozza still sports its familiar farmhouse aesthetics with its dark wood furnishings. Its famed mozzarella cheese bar where its antipasti are on display is also back, and now situated near the entrance.

14. Zen Cafe – Vegetarian cafe in a monastery

Religious establishments are the last place anyone would look to for a new cafe or restaurant, yet one cafe has sprung up in Kong Meng San Phor Kark See Monastery. Aptly named Zen Cafe, it’s helmed by monks of the Buddhist temple, and provides followers with vegetarian buns and drinks to refuel with after prayers.
That’s not to say the non-religious are discouraged from visiting. Feel free to drop by for their simple menu of Assorted Buns at $1.60 each, with fillings like taro and cheese. Shortly after launching their first outlet at Suntec City, Coucou Hotpot has decided to bring their popular hotpot and bubble tea to Jewel Changi Airport too. If your dinner pals can’t decide on the soups to get, the hotpot chain resto is known for its 3-way hotpot ($118) for more soup choices and less bickering.
Another delicious must-have on the menu is their meat platters. Stuff yourself silly with various cuts of beef, like the Wagyu Beef Chuck Brisket ($58.80/180g). 16. GRUB Burger Bistro – Popular burger bar reopened

The original GRUB Burger Bistro at Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park may be gone, but that doesn’t mean the iconic cafe has left no trace. Rather, it has made its grand return at Stevens Road, where patrons can relish on their yummy burgers while enjoying the chill breeze at the alfresco dining area.
